The Urban Ideation Lab is the laboratory of tomorrow’s urban quarter. UIL works on behalf of COPRO Projektentwicklung as an interdisciplinary team of experts to develop utilization concepts and scenarios for the future Urbane Mitte Am Gleisdreieck and the integration of participatory processes in private real estate development. The project was conducted in several group constellations and I was Fallow in 2022 - 2023. Our topic was “Kiez machen!” and we dealt with the question of how the newly emerging urban quarter of the Urban Mitte in the heart of Berlin can achieve positive and integrative added value for the city's residents and what concrete approaches and designs are necessary for this.
As part of this fellowship program, a co-creative idea sprint lasting several days was held to compile an initial concept design and define areas of responsibility. Together we developed the “Vertical Kiez” concept, in which the qualities of a typical Berlin neighborhood and its characteristics were analyzed and then transferred to a vertical spatial concept. I conducted interviews with visitors to GleisdreieckPark and expert interviews with local stakeholders. Furthermore, I designed a mood board and dependency simulations “Synergy Map” of different networks and actors operating in the neighborhood.
The results were presented to the public and the project developers from COPRO Projektentwicklung GmbH and DLE at a jointly organized final event. Here is our final concept “Kiez machen!” as PDF.
